Over-the-range microwaves truly justify their name as these ovens can be tucked into space above the cooktop and allow you to use your workstation for other valuable chores.

They also have an inbuilt venting that works as an exhaust system. You find them a little pricier than countertops, but they will not disappoint you with their performance. Moreover, these ovens don’t occupy your valuable workspace.

Professional installation is required for over-the-range microwaves as they need to be tucked into the cabinet. Not much variation is available as compared to countertop microwave ovens.

The most versatile ovens that are tucked into the cabinet already exist, and your countertop is free for other tasks to do. Built-In Microwave Ovens require professional help for their installation and are most expensive also. But it is a long-term investment, and your every penny would be worth it.

Typical Microwave Dimensions in case of Built-in Microwaves

Width is around 28 to 30 inches

How to measure Typical Microwave Dimensions?

For a Countertop microwave oven, you need to measure the height, width, and Depth of your old microwave or the space you have on your workstation. Make sure there is a gap of at least 1-inch behind the microwave oven.

For Over-the-range and Built-in microwave ovens, some specification is needed. Measuring the height, width, and Depth of the cabinet (where the oven is to be tucked in) is more important than typical dimensions of the ranges.

Steps to follow to measure Typical Microwave Dimensions:

  1. First, you have to take your existing unit out of the cabinet.
  2. With the help of measuring tape, measure the height from the top of the cabinet opening to the bottom of the cabinet opening.
  3. Now you can measure width from the left side of the cabinet to the right side of the cabinet from inside.
  4. Lastly, you can measure Depth from the wall to the front of the cabinet. Make sure to exclude the door.

Important Tip

The TIghter fit is ideal for the microwaves to be tucked in the cabinet. No extra space is required around the unit

Other factors you can consider instead of Typical Microwave Dimensions:

Wattage

A most important factor while making the decision Which Brand Is Best For Microwave Oven?

The higher Wattage is the indicator of efficient energy saving. If Wattage is more, the time needed to cook a particular dish would be less and vice versa.

Higher Wattage = Less Time Consumed.

Size Of Your Family

If you have a family of two, you will not need a large-size oven, and if you are having a family of four or more, you would need a full-size microwave oven. So it is also an essential factor to consider while buying a microwave oven.

What You Cook

If you are a lazy person like me who needs to reheat the food or thaw frozen food, a microwave oven is more than enough for you. On the contrary, if you love to experiment with your culinary skills, you can opt for a Built-In microwave oven.

Conclusion

Typical Microwave Dimensions are measured by internal Capacity and external height, width, and, Depth of the device. Internal Capacity is denoted by cubic feet, whereas all other dimensions are measured in inches. Typical capacities range between 1.5 to 2.2 cubic feet, and the width goes around 29 to 30 inches externally. Depth may come between 15 and 16 inches, whereas height can be approximately 16 and 18 inches. These are the average dimensions of a standard model.
